Iron to suit (illustrated Targus 7989 1/0) Tying Instructions: 1. Mount the hook and attach the thread at the point on the return wire where the head will start. Wrap the thread in touching turns back to the tip tie in point over the point of the barb of the hook. 2. Attach the fine flat gold tinsel and wrap a five or six turn tip and tie off the tinsel up to the point of the hook and cut the excess. 3. Attach the yellow floss and wrap the floss back to the tip and then return forward to the tie in point and tie off and cut the excess there. 4. Tie in a tail of red hackle fibers and tie off cutting the excess about five tie down wraps forward of the tie in point. 5. Tie in a peacock herl and wrap a five or six turn butt covering the tie off points of the tip, tag, and tail, wrapping the peacock herl butt to the 2/5s point of the body length. 6. Tie in the flat silver tinsel and wrap back to the butt and then back to the 2/5s point where the tinsel was tied in. Cut off the excess tinsel tie in tag. 7. Tie in the hot orange floss at the 2/5s point of the body with five tight thread wraps moving toward the eye of the hook. 8. Wrap the floss back in touching turns to the tail tie in point and then forward to the starting point. Unwrap four turns of thread and then tie down the floss with five tight turns of thread. Cut off the excess. 9. Form a thread dubbing loop at the front of the floss and form a noodle of hot orange dubbing. Wind the dubbing forward 3/5s of the length of the body leaving a small gap between the front of the body and the back of the wing. Tie off and cut off the excess. 10. Wrap the oval tinsel forward in five turns, tie off, and cut the excess. 11. Tie in a red feather and wrap three to five turns of hackle forward coming to the back of the wing, tie off and cut the excess. 12. Whip finish the working thread and cut off. 13. Tie in the black thread and wrap to the front of the hackle. 14. Tie in a wing of six to eight strand of peacock sword fibers. 15. Tie in a pair of mallard or gadwall body feather slips as a roof over the peacock sword wing. 16. Form a head proportional to the size of the fly, whip finish, apply a penetrating head cement and let dry. 18. Apply one or more coats of Sally Hansen Hard as Nails as required and let dry.
