Tying Instructions:
NB: I can no longer find the tying instructions from Peter so the tying instructions are my understanding from looking at the lovely fly he sent to me. Any errors in the instructions are therefore, solely mine. This fly is about 6 inches long and 4 inches from one foot to the other.
1. Mount the hook in the vise,
mount the thread above the point of the hook and cement.
2. Mix a bunch of gold flashabou and
pearl krystalflash try to
change the length of each set of fibers a bit and
make all of the krystalflash a bit longer than any of the gold flashabou, this
will give
the fly more life than a
straight cut bunch. Tie in the tail, leave a
dubbing loop just in front of the tail and
cement.
3. Tie in a small bunch of 3 to 3 1/2 inch
fluorescent Chartreuse deer hair on each top side of the hook shank
over the tail tie in point. Tie an "ankle" into each leg about 1 inch
from the tip of the hair and then stroke in
a small amount of silicone adhesive and form the legs into an
upward/outward curve and spread the tips to
create the feet.
4. Spin a medium bunch of medium green deer body hair
and pack.
5.
Spin a medium bunch of yellow deer body hair and pack up against the
first bunch of green hair.
6.
Spin bunches of medium green body hair and pack until the eye of the
hook is reached, then whip finish and
cut off the thread.
7.
Shape the spun deer hair into a frog body by cutting the bottom flat and
as close to the hook as possible
without cutting the thread.
8.
Shape a collar at the rear of the frog body and the front in a cone
shaped head (i.e., a Dahlberg diver style
head as the frog body).
9.
Apply small amounts of silicone adhesive and rub it into the body to
stiffen and hold the body shape.
10.
Attach a 5 mm bright yellow doll eye with black pupil on each side of
the head with silicone adhesive.
11.
Fly is ready, try it in your favorite water ASAP!
This has to be one of the best looking surface popper designs for
Pike and Musky around. I should not only catch Pike and Musky but
fishermen too.
Something's out there...............
