Premier Fly Fishing Services

Materials:
Hook: Salmon hook or Low Water Salmon hook of choice, size to suit (Mike Kinney likes the Alec
Jackson hook with a gold finish)
Thread: Black 6/0
Body: Purple holographic or Peacock green holographic tinsel (originally tied with purple chenille)
Body Hackle: Purple Schalppen as long as possible
Throat: Guinea Fowl flank feather, natural
Wing: A golden pheasant red flank feather
veiled with a yellow golden pheasant body feather; tented
like a traditional Spey fly wing on each side
Head:
Black thread
Tying Instructions:
1. Mount an appropriate hook in the vise.
2. Tie in the thread slightly in front of the point of the hook.
3. Tie in 2 strands of the holographic tinsel on far side bottom of the hook wrapping the thread back to above the hook point and then advance the thread forward the width of the tinsel.
4. Tie in the Schalppen hackle by the tip on the near side bottom of the hook with a butt long enough to reach the end of the hook return wire.
5. Wrap the holographic tinsel one wrap behind the hackle and then cross over the hackle stem on the bottom of the hook and continue wrapping the tinsel forward in touching turns to slightly beyond the end of the return wire. Tie off and cut off the excess.
6. Wrap the Schalppen hackle forward in 5 turns to the front of the body take one wrap of thread to hold the hackle in place, advance the thread and then take 2 to 3 touching turns of hackle and tie off on the bottom of the hook.
7. Tie in a natural Guinea fowl flank feather by the tip on the bottom of the hook shank after folding the feather. Wrap 1½ turns and tie off on top of the hook. Tying off on top of the hook helps to form a good support for mounting the wings so they form an inverted boat hull shape around the top half of the hook shank.
8. Mount a pair of red flank feathers from a Golden Pheasant on each side exactly like a bronze mallard slip wing. The wing length should be about the body length or a pit shorter.
9. Mount a single yellow body feather from a Golden Pheasant over each wing and slightly shorter than the red wing. The yellow feather should also be narrower than the red wing feathers.
10. Wrap a proportional head, whip finish, and apply head cement and gloss finish.
