Silver Hilton - Spey Variation

Materials:

 Hook:                         Salmon Iron to suit (illustrated Targus 7989 1/0)
Thread:                        Gudebröd 6/0 BCS 118 Black
Tag:                             Medium Flat Silver Tinsel covering rear half of hook
Rib:                              Medium Oval Silver Tinsel over dubbed front half of hook (optional)
Body:                           Black Seal Fur or Diamond Dub dubbing over front half of hook

Hackle:
                         Whiting Black Spey hackle
Wing:                           Pair of Coq de Leon cape feathers - Silver with black list
Collar:                          Gadwall Flank feather folded
Head:                           Gudebröd 6/0, BCS 118 Black

 Tying Instructions:

 1.         Mount hook and attach the thread at the hook shank mid-point between the rear of the hook eye and the point of the hook.

 2.         Tie in the medium flat silver tinsel at the mid-point, wrap the tinsel in touching turns back to a point on the hook shank above
             the hook point and then return in touching turns to the tie in point. Tie off the tinsel and flex it until the excess butt breaks
             free.

 3.        Form a dubbing loop of about 3 inches).

4.        Mount the medium oval silver tinsel rib and then take the working thread to about two hook eye lengths behind eye (usually
           where the return wire ends

5.        Place a thin noodle of black seal fur or diamond dub dubbing into the dubbing loop and using a dubbing twirl twist the loop
          and dubbing into a rough chenille. Wrap this chenille forward in touching turns to the working thread, tie off and cut off the
          excess.

6.        Wrap the rib forward in 5 turns and tie off. Cut off the excess.

7.        Tie in one or two Whiting black Spey hackles of desired length by the tips and wrap the feather to the include the fuzzy long
           fibers at the butt of the feather, tie off and cut off the butts.

8.       Mount the wing up against the butt of the Spey hackle with the feather tips flaring outward away from one another.

9.        Tie in the Gadwall Flank feather by the tip against the base of the wing and wrap forward 2 or 3 turns. Tie off and cut off the
           butt.

10.       Form an appropriately sized head, apply a penetrating head cement and when dry apply Sally Hanson Hard As Nails as
           the gloss overcoat.
